*Typewriter Muse Grading System
To ensure transparency and confidence in every purchase, Typewriter Muse evaluates each machine using our four-category grading system, rated on a 1–10 scale:
-
Mechanical Systems – internal function, alignment, and reliability.
-
Rubber Components – platen, feed rollers, and other rubber elements essential to print quality.
-
Performance / Ease of Use – typing action, smoothness, and overall user experience (set by the manufacturer and design on machine).
-
Aesthetics – cosmetic condition, paint, body integrity, and visual appeal (sometimes age adds cool vintage appeal).
A machine graded by Typewriter Muse has been fully inspected by our crafters, serviced by our typewriter mechanic, and tested by professionals who specialize exclusively in vintage manual typewriters.
If you are considering a typewriter that does not include a documented grading or quality assessment, we strongly advise against owning it. Ungraded machines often hide mechanical issues or deteriorated rubber that can be costly to repair. Our advice: always buy from a reputable typewriter reseller who evaluates and discloses the true condition of the machine.
Typewriter Muse is committed to preserving these historic writing machines–helping buyers make informed, confident decisions.
Typewriter Muse Warranty:
If this typewriter is a Muse Certified Machine, it carries our 2 year limited warranty and is ready for an estimated 10 plus years of service before needing any major rubber replacement or tuning if cared for properly (we have typewriter care kits available). It has been professionally reconditioned by our fine staff of writers, crafters and mechanics here at Muse and will perform as the day it was born.
